Qualifications: What training, experience and characteristics qualify you for this position?
As an educator, digital navigator, and instructional designer, I have spent my career supporting students and instructors. I understand education's issues and have worked to integrate technology and digital literacy. With a master’s in Learning, Technology, & Design, I am committed to collaboration, equality, and informed decision-making to help Humble ISD succeed.
Opportunities: What opportunities for improvement do you identify in the District and how do you feel the Board should work towards those goals?
Improvement opportunities include direct interactions with communities regarding the use of bond funds as schools are being upgraded and open communications between upper-level administrators and the community. The board can work towards these goals by having community update meetings with parents in the schools being upgraded and offering meet and greets quarterly throughout the district so parents can be familiar with the administrators roles.
Funding: What actions can the Board take to secure the financial future of the District? Specifically, are there any expenditures you feel should be examined as a cost-saving measure?
To secure the district's financial future, the board should evaluate how funds were spent during the two years prior. Once the board understands the financial mistakes, then the board can focus on the present fund balance and potential cost-saving measures. Upper-level administrator roles, contract duplication with outside vendors, and curriculum costs vs effectiveness may be among the expenses reviewed.
Supporting Teachers: What do you see as the most pressing issues facing teachers in the District? What actions can the Board take to better support and retain teachers?
The most pressing issue facing teachers is teacher retention, along with high workload and insufficient compensation. In order to retain great teachers and improve student achievements, the board can increase pay, hire teacher aids, continue offering mental health support, provide professional development, and create a work life balance atmosphere.
Future Voters: Assess how the District prepares students to participate in their country’s democracy and describe what the Board can do to support civic engagement efforts.
The District teaches students about democracy through social studies and community involvement. The Board can assist by promoting civic engagement initiatives, collaborating with local governments and groups, and providing students with the tools they need to develop critical thinking and leadership skills to become active citizens.
