BACKGROUND: What training, experience, and characteristics qualify you for this position?

I am a High School Teacher with 24 years of experience. I also have a background in business . If elected, I will be the only current teacher on the Board. I have been attending and speaking up at Pasadena ISD school board meetings since 2007.

ISSUES: What are the two most important issues affecting Pasadena Independent School District? What measurable actions will you take to address them?

The PISD has had a deficit of $33M in the last 3 years. I am running to provide a better oversight of the budget.
In 2007, the Board made the decision to change the school start time from 7:50 to 7:15am with short savings but long term costs to our students' health, academics and safety. We need to survey students to know their needs in order to thrive and to keep families in the district.

STUDENT PERFORMANCE: What actions do you support to increase the math and reading proficiency scores across the school district?

Students can not learn when their basic needs of nourishment and sleep are not met. We need to help address these needs first. It could be cost-effective. And teachers need more resources in the classrooms to facilitate learning. Finally, more afterschool programs with volunteers/teachers to tutor students who need extra should be implemented.
