What training, experience and characteristics qualify you for this position?
I am a 27 year educator who has taught elementary, middle, and high school. I have held various leadership positions in and out of the classroom that supported students and educators.
Teacher Support
How can the SBOE invest in the profession of teaching to support high-quality instruction?
The SBOE can fully funding our neighborhood schools, increase charter school financial and academic accountability, fund educator mentor programs to retain educators, return academic freedom to increase student teacher academic discourse that promotes critical thinking and analysis, and require fact based curriculum materials across grade/content areas, particularly in history and science.
AI in the Curriculum
What knowledge and skills related to artificial intelligence (AI) should be included in the Texas curriculum?
AI should support not supplant critical thinking skills. Al TEKS should include safety skills and knowledge to help students navigate the dangers of AI such as deep fakes, while supporting students with certain physical and learning disabilities. AI TEKS should also include the impact this technology has on societal norms, mental health, the economy, and natural resource systems.
Civics
How can Texas improve civics education and understanding of government?
Texas can implement grade/age appropriate standards that include multisensory materials to promote student understanding across grade levels, teach fact-based events, the government’s role in those events, and a differentiation of constitutionally granted powers versus traditional norms and limitations across branches that connect to state and local government powers and jurisdictions.

What considerations would guide your recommendations when revising books lists for required reading?
When making recommendations for revising book lists for required reading some factors I would consider include, but are not limited to pedagogy, research, current events, as well as, historical content and context.
