Civil District Judge, 269th Judicial District

Accountability
What will you do to promote the just, prompt, and affordable resolution of civil cases that come before your court?
When I took the bench, I eliminated the wasteful practice of unnecessary court appearances. If oral hearings are requested, I allow remote participation. The 269th under my direction embraced “zoom” and eliminated unnecessary docket appearances. Litigants have the option of choosing how they wish their matter heard. During court proceedings I use everyone’s time wisely. I do not order costly mediation in every case. We allow folks to save their resources for trial. I worked to ensure translation services are available in the 269th District Court for all litigants regardless of their financial resources. I am currently working to repurpose unused space in the courthouse to offer the option of affordable and expedited mediations to parties.
Court System
What specific actions would you take to ensure the timely resolution of cases while maintaining fairness for all parties?
I preside over one of the most efficiently run courts in Texas. I honor requests for family leave and do not blindly assign lawyers & litigants to trial without considering their conflicts. The 269th has one of the highest closure rates year-after-year & has one of the lowest dockets. The experience I have from over 26 years in law & 8 years on the bench enables me to make decisions timely. By providing timely rulings and trial settings I am able to ensure litigants receive their day in court without undue delay. I am working to repurpose unused space in the courthouse for mediations and expedited trials. This would allow parties, if they agree, to resolve some disputes even quicker. I move cases timely without sacrificing fairness.
