Qualifications
What training, experience, and characteristics qualify you for this position?
As a wife, mom, surgeon, small-business owner, former state senator, and Texas’ first female Land Commissioner, I bring real-world experience and a proven record of delivering results for Texans.
Disaster Recovery
What measures should the state take to respond quickly and effectively to disasters?
Texas must prepare before disaster strikes and act decisively afterward. I will continue to invest in mitigation, resilient infrastructure, and flood planning; strengthen state, local and federal coordination; and cut red tape so aid reaches families faster. Recovery must help Texans return home, reopen businesses and rebuild stronger. Planning saves lives, property, and tax dollars.
Veterans
What new initiatives or programs would you support to help veterans?
Texas is home to millions of Veterans, and we must help them thrive after service. As Veterans Land Board chair, I delivered nearly $2 billion in loans to over 7,200 Veterans and their families, raised the home-loan limit, expanded land loans and stewarded 10 Veterans Homes and 5 Veterans Cemeteries. I will keep expanding access to homeownership, employment, healthcare, and long-term care.
Flood Plain Management
What strategies would you support to reduce flooding risk and strengthen long-term community resilience and disaster recovery.
The GLO has delivered billions in flood mitigation during my tenure. I will continue investing in drainage and mitigation projects, improve floodplain planning, strengthen critical infrastructure and help communities prepare before storms arrive. The GLO will direct resources toward projects that protect homes, businesses, roads, and schools. Investments today will better protect Texans tomorrow.
Education Funding
What role should the General Land Office play in making sure that state lands generate long-term financial benefits for Texas public schools?
The GLO must maximize the long-term value of state lands for Texas schoolchildren. I have generated over $6 billion for public education without raising taxes. We will responsibly develop oil, gas, rare earth minerals, geothermal and nuclear energy, and other emerging resources while protecting Texas energy jobs and pursuing opportunities that strengthen our economic engine to benefit all Texans.
