Accountability
What will you do to promote the just, prompt, and affordable resolution of civil cases that come before your court?
As judge of the 270th Civil Court for the past 8 years, I increase access to justice and give equal access to justice. I increase access to justice daily by being creative and innovative. Thinking outside of the box has allowed litigants from all over the world to have their prompt and just day in the 270th without being crippled by high travel expenses, closed borders, or unnecessary time away from their families. Additionally, one of the most effective ways I provide EQUAL access to justice is by giving free copies of the Court’s official record to the litigants. I understand that many litigants are not able to pay the high costs of obtaining the Court’s record and end up being denied the chance to appeal their cases to a higher court.
Court System
What specific actions would you take to ensure the timely resolution of cases while maintaining fairness for all parties?
As judge of the 270th Civil Court for the past 8 years, I consistently ensured timely resolution of cases while maintaining fairness for all parties. I ensure each litigant is seen and heard. Every litigant is treated with dignity. I preside over the court in a patient, respectful, courteous and impartial manner. I actively manage cases by balancing speed with thoroughness and never sacrificing fairness to the parties. When COVID halted courthouse operations, under the authority of the Texas Supreme Court, I presided over more than 60 virtual trials via Zoom rather than let the dockets become backlogged. I have policies and procedures in place that are active and include innovative case management. I deliver justice daily.
