HCAD Director, Place 3
Ericka McCrutcheon
Qualifications
What training, experience and characteristics qualify you for this position?
My experience as a business owner, licensed insurance agent, and Realtor has given me a strong understanding of the importance of accurate property appraisals and their impact on homeowners, businesses, and local communities. Serving as a member of the Harris Central Appraisal District Board has further strengthened my understanding of the appraisal process and the challenges taxpayers face. This experience has reinforced my commitment to making the property tax system more transparent, user-friendly, and accessible while educating the public about available exemptions and opportunities to reduce their property tax burden.
Issues
What are the two (2) most pressing issues that you will face in the office that you seek? Describe your “specific” plans/ideas for addressing these issues.
As a current board member, I believe the Harris Central Appraisal District’s top priorities are education and community engagement. Every homeowner and business owner deserves to understand how their property is appraised, what exemptions they qualify for, and how to protest a valuation if they disagree. Accurate and fair appraisals are essential to public trust and a fair tax system. I support investing in technology that makes appraisal information and resources easily accessible. I also believe in meeting residents where they are through churches, community centers, and civic organizations, ensuring seniors and other taxpayers receive the guidance they need. An informed taxpayer is an empowered taxpayer.
