Issues
What do you see as the most significant issues currently facing the probate court system and how will you address them?
One of the most significant challenges facing the probate court system is ensuring that justice is both timely and accessible. Probate courts serve families during some of the most difficult moments of their lives—after the death of a loved one, when an adult becomes incapacitated, or when a person is experiencing a serious mental health crisis. Delays, unnecessary complexity, and barriers to accessing the courts can have profound consequences. As judge, I have focused on improving both efficiency and access to justice. Our court has implemented standardized procedures, embraced technology to allow greater remote participation when appropriate, and maintained a case clearance rate exceeding 100%, ensuring that we resolve cases quickly.
Guardianship
What will you do to ensure an effective and coordinated process for dealing with guardianship cases, especially those involving parties who are disabled or elderly?
Every guardianship case requires a careful balance between protecting an individual’s welfare and respecting that person’s legal rights. An effective guardianship system depends on collaboration among the court, attorneys, guardians, court investigators, medical professionals, social workers, Adult Protective Services, and community service providers. As judge, I have worked to strengthen those relationships to ensure that cases are handled efficiently and that decisions are based on accurate, timely information. If reelected, I will continue working to ensure that Harris County’s guardianship system is efficient, transparent, compassionate, and focused on protecting people while respecting their independence, dignity, and legal rights.
