Backlog
How will you address the case backlog in your court to ensure timely resolution for all parties?
My court does not currently have a significant case backlog, and that is a result of effective case management and a commitment to bringing cases to trial or resolution within one year whenever possible. I would maintain that success through proactive docket management, firm but fair scheduling deadlines, and regular monitoring of older cases. I would work with attorneys and court staff to identify and address unnecessary delays while ensuring legitimate requests for additional time are handled fairly. My goal is to provide every party timely access to justice and prevent a backlog before it develops.
Efficiency/accessibility
How will you ensure efficient and equitable resolution of matters that come before your court, and that all residents — regardless of their financial means — have meaningful access to legal resources?
I will ensure every person who comes before my court has a fair opportunity to be heard. Because my court serves a significant number of self-represented litigants, I will make the process as accessible and understandable as possible. I will continue to utilize Zoom when appropriate to reduce barriers such as transportation, work, and childcare. I will ensure that self-represented parties understand the process and have a meaningful opportunity to present their case, while remaining fair and impartial. Regardless of financial means, background, or whether someone has an attorney, everyone’s voice will be heard.
