Background
What would you like people to know about you?
I believe in our students and community. As a longtime trustee, graduate of Tomball, father of 3 Tomball graduates and grandfather of 6 children in the District, I bring proven, positive leadership. I’m committed to exceptional education, student achievement, community values, safety, and responsible fiscal management while protecting and strengthening the quality of education our families expect.
Qualifications
What training, experience and characteristics qualify you for this position?
I bring 26 yrs of school board experience, including 5 years as board president, working with 20 different fellow trustees and hiring 2 superintendents. As a graduate, parent and longtime community member, I understand our schools firsthand. My professional experience as an attorney, CEO, corporate Director, and budget manager provides sound judgment, proven leadership, and fiscal responsibility.
Opportunities
Based on the District’s latest improvement plan, what do you see as the greatest opportunities for improvement and how do you see the Board supporting the improvement plan?
The DWIP is aligned with Strategic Plan 2030, wherein one goal is to empower students with the knowledge necessary to be responsible, ethical digital citizens while navigating the digital world. The digital world is ever-evolving, resulting in ever-changing opportunities. Full Board support for this goal will help our students not only be successful but ethical in the digital world.
Supporting Teachers
What do you see as the most pressing issues facing the District’s teachers? What actions can the Board take to better support teachers?
Classroom discipline, time-consuming non-instructional duties, and competitive compensation. The Board must work closely with the superintendent to provide stronger classroom management support, streamline or otherwise support non-instructional demands, continue meaningful professional development, and find innovative ways to enhance teacher compensation.
Challenges
What do you view as the biggest challenge facing the District in the next several years and what actions will you support to meet that challenge?
The District’s greatest challenge will be managing continued growth while navigating an uncertain and changing state funding system. I will support long-term fiscal planning, responsible budgeting, and strong communication/advocacy with state and local legislators to ensure resources are used efficiently and our District remains financially sound.
Future Voters
Assess how the District prepares students to participate in their country’s democracy and describe what the Board can do to support these efforts.
Civics is embedded in the curriculum. The District’s Mission is to develop impactful, contributing citizens, with a goal to provide a comprehensive character education framework that develops contributing citizens and leaders. The Board also supports the LWV voter registration drives at campuses and use of the America250 celebration to encourage informed, active participation in our democracy.
