Backlog
How will you address the case backlog in your court to ensure timely resolution for all parties?
Since taking office, I have made fair and timely case resolution a top priority. When I assumed the bench, my court had one of the largest caseloads in Harris County. I implemented structured scheduling orders, regular status hearings, early case reviews, and increased communication with attorneys to identify and resolve issues before trial settings. These efforts significantly reduced my court’s backlog while protecting the constitutional rights of defendants and the interests of victims. I will continue using proven case management practices, embracing technology to improve efficiency, and holding all parties accountable for meeting deadlines so cases are resolved fairly, promptly and with confidence in our justice system.
Efficiency/accessibility
How will you ensure efficient and equitable resolution of matters that come before your court, and that all residents — regardless of their financial means — have meaningful access to legal resources?
Every person who enters my courtroom deserves to be treated with dignity, fairness, and respect, regardless of their financial circumstances. I ensure equitable case resolution by applying the law impartially, maintaining consistent case management practices, and requiring accountability from all parties. I provide clear information about court procedures, accommodate self-represented litigants when appropriate, and ensure qualified counsel is appointed for those who are legally entitled to representation. I also support diversion and treatment programs when authorized by law, recognizing that addressing underlying issues can improve outcomes, enhance public safety, and reduce future involvement with the justice system.
