Backlog
How will you address the case backlog in your court to ensure timely resolution for all parties?
For the past eight years, I have served as Judge of the 234th District Court - together with my incredible staff we have maintained a high clearance rate and work diligently to ensure timely resolution of cases. As cases age, I set periodic status conference to encourage discussion between parties and help the parties and lawyers prepare their case for trial or work to a resolution. I set timely hearings so motions can be heard and the parties can move their cases forward and advise their clients.
Efficiency/accessibility
How will you ensure efficient and equitable resolution of matters that come before your court, and that all residents — regardless of their financial means — have meaningful access to legal resources?
As the amount of self-represented litigants rises, Harris County District Courts are working to ensure that there are adequate resources available so that those cases can proceed fairly. Our court strives to problem solve - many cases are practical issues to be solved rather than cases to be litigated.
