Infrastructure
What is your approach to federal infrastructure investment, and how would you prioritize funding for energy, transportation, flood mitigation, and resilience needs in your district?
In Congress, I helped advance the IIJA, the largest long-term investment in the country’s infrastructure in nearly a century, helping our region secure critical funding for energy, transportation, flood mitigation, and resilience projects, which have been a priority for me and the district. I have worked with local and national leaders to identify projects and secure the resources from Congressional appropriations and from grant programs, assisting local governments and organizations successfully navigate the federal grants process. I have introduced legislation to enable disaster relief projects to begin sooner (which became law) and to provide new funding sources for coastal infrastructure and flood resiliency projects.
Inflation
If elected to office, what will you do to address rising costs, especially with regard to groceries, childcare, and housing?
Every family should be able to live their version of the American Dream. For too many, it’s out of reach because the things they need—housing, health care, food, child care, education, and more—are just not affordable. As a member of the New Democrat Coalition, I am advancing an agenda to lower everyday costs in the short and long-term, promote competition to boost consumer choice, break down regulatory barriers across the government, and act in a fiscally responsible way by addressing broken systems and putting the well-being of hardworking families front and center, including reversing the Trump Administration’s unaffordable and ineffective policies like tariffs and developing and implementing concrete policies that lift up all Americans.
Immigration
What is your position on federal immigration enforcement and detention policies? What specific changes, if any, would you support to how those policies are implemented?
Throughout my time in Congress, I have worked to address our broken immigration system, advocating for comprehensive immigration reform with a fair and practical pathway to legal status. The Trump administration, however, has lied about its actions and has targeted law-abiding people, restricted lawful immigration pathways, and rushed people through expedited deportation processes. This has created not only a political but a moral crisis for all Americans to address. Current detention protocols are inhumane. They are also an utter failure. They are not making people safer; they are making all of us less safe, and the agencies like ICE operating without accountability, transparency, or guardrails must be completely reformed.
Voting
What changes, if any, to current laws related to voter registration, voter ID, and mail-in ballots would you support and why?
Voting is the very foundation of our democratic system of government. We must enact and enforce laws that make it easier, not harder, for all eligible voters to exercise their constitutional right to vote and have a say in government—including better systems to determine our representation and to ensure equal access to the ballot box. I have cosponsored several bills to secure these sacred rights, including the For the People Act, the Voter Empowerment Act, and the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act, which include provisions to address concerns with voter registration, voting access (vote-by-mail and early voting), and election integrity and security, including cybersecurity of election systems.
