Accountability
What will you do to promote the just, prompt, and affordable resolution of cases that come before your court?
I promote the just, prompt, and affordable resolution of cases through active docket management, and fair application of the law. I encourage early discovery and meaningful pretrial conferences. I ensure that constitutional rights are protected while holding parties accountable to deadlines and court orders. When appropriate I support the use of mental health resources and other lawful alternatives that improve outcomes and reduce recidivism. By treating every participant with dignity, maintaining impartiality, and managing cases efficiently, my priority is to strengthen public confidence in the judiciary and ensure that justice is administered fairly, consistently and without unnecessary delay.
Bail
In setting bail amounts, how will you balance Texas’s constitutionally mandated bail requirements with other conditions of release including minimizing any public safety threat the defendant may present to the community? Please discuss both first time and repeat offenders.
Under the Texas Constitution, bail is a right intended to secure appearance, not a tool for pre-trial punishment. In balancing this requirement with public safety, I evaluate every case individually using individualized risk assessments and criminal history. For first-time offenders, reasonable bail and standard conditions ensure court attendance without imposing excessive financial burdens. For repeat or violent offenders, public safety concerns escalate. In these cases, I impose higher bond amounts and strict release conditions such as GPS tracking, drug testing curfews or utilize constitutional provisions to deny bail where legally required. My priority is a fair process that protects community safety.
