Qualifications
What training, experience, and characteristics qualify you for this position?
I have a breadth of experience in both the public and private sectors. My public sector roles include Director of Communications at the Harris County District Clerk’s Office; Chief of Staff for the Fort Bend County Judge and; Finance Department Manager for Judge Bob Wolfe at JP Precinct 5, Place 2. I will also bring a variety of private sector and entrepreneurial experience to the County Treasurer’s Office. I have operated a successful insurance brokerage for many years, and currently hold two insurance licenses in multiple states. I am also the founder and principal of a consulting firm that offers professional services to both political and business clients.
Accountability
What steps will you take to ensure transparency, public accountability, and the security of county funds in the management of county finances?
I believe Orlando Sanchez, the previous Treasurer who won multiple awards for transparency, is the gold standard of county treasurers. As Harris County Treasurer, I will build on Orlando Sanchez’s proven record of independent oversight and online check registers, while adding modern tools. I will restore and upgrade a searchable public expenditure dashboard with real-time data, timely monthly reports posted online, and open-data portals so taxpayers can easily track every dollar. Unlike the current treasurer, I will take the responsibility of transparency and accountability seriously and will not take months or even years to make information available to the public. I will also be an outspoken advocate of responsible spending.
