What training, experience, and characteristics qualify you forthis position?
As a native Houstonian, educated at University of St. Thomas, Houston Baptist University, and Houston Christian High School, having served 12 years as a countywide elected Harris County School Trustee, and years of service as a Child Support Officer with the Texas Attorney General and as a Government Affairs Officer with the Harris County District Clerk, and as a Juvenile Supervision Officer and Teacher, I have the knowledge and hands on government experience needed to lead safe and secure elections and protect public data and with honesty and integrity in Harris County, Texas.
Voters
How will you ensure that elections in Harris County are administered accurately, securely, and accessibly for all eligible voters, including those who face language barriers, transportation challenges, or other obstacles to participation?
I will begin with the key priorities of building trust, enhancing efficiency, and modernizing operations across the office’s core duties (elections, property records, court filings, and vital statistics). I propose a three-phase approach: • Phase 1: Assess and modernize digital infrastructure. • Phase 2: Enhance accessibility and outreach. • Phase 3: Innovate by integrating emerging technologies. The plan would not require new funding or legislation. Instead, it will use existing budgets via cost-savings measures (including grants to shift from paper storage to digital). I will make sure employees are well trained and educated with the most up to date election related training as well as other training needed for County Clerk staff.
Elections
The Texas Secretary of State has authority to investigate and potentially impose oversight on Harris County elections. How will you ensure the County Clerk’s Office maintains the standards required to preserve local control of election administration?
I will work hand in hand with the Texas Secretary of State to maintain appropriate standards.
Records
What steps will you take to ensure that Harris County residents have timely and equitable access to vital documents and county records, and how will you maintain oversight of those processes?
I will work to further modernize the office and the County Clerk’s website to be in step with the most modern standards.
