Accountability
What will you do to promote the just, prompt, and affordable resolution of cases that come before your court?
My nearly 20 years as a prosecutor have given me extensive experience managing criminal cases and an understanding of the delays that can prevent fair and timely resolutions. As judge, I will actively manage the court’s docket, set clear expectations for attorneys, address unnecessary delays, and ensure cases continue moving toward a resolution. Efficiency, however, should never come at the expense of justice or due process. I will promote an organized, consistent, and accountable courtroom that resolves cases promptly and efficiently, while respecting the rights of defendants, victims, and the community.
Bail
In setting bail amounts, how will you balance Texas’s constitutionally mandated bail requirements with other conditions of release including minimizing any public safety threat the defendant may present to the community? Please discuss both first time and repeat offenders.
I will consider the nature of the alleged offense, the defendant’s criminal history, risk of flight, and any demonstrated threat to victims or the community. For first-time offenders if they present little public-safety risk, I will consider appropriate non financial conditions of release. Repeat offenders and those who present a demonstrated safety risk will require greater scrutiny and appropriate conditions. My decisions will be fair, individualized, and consistent with the law, while protecting both constitutional rights and public safety.
