Backlog
How will you address the case backlog in your court to ensure timely resolution for all parties?
To address the case backlog, I utilize technology like Zoom, allowing virtual appearances for both attorneys and defendants. This removes significant obstacles such as taking time off work, traffic, and childcare costs. My policy excuses defendants represented by attorneys from physical attendance at routine settings, maintaining workforce stability. With 20 years of combined judicial experience, I focus on system efficiency and transparency by live-streaming proceedings. By implementing these administrative measures, I ensure that justice is administered without unnecessary delays, respecting the time and livelihoods of all parties while maintaining the thoroughness required for a fair legal process.
Efficiency/accessibility
How will you ensure efficient and equitable resolution of matters that come before your court, and that all residents — regardless of their financial means — have meaningful access to legal resources?
I ensure equitable justice through initiatives like the Fresh Start program, which I co-founded to help individuals seal records and improve employability. As a bilingual jurist, I provide direct communication for Spanish speakers, ensuring they are fully heard. For those with limited means, I inform pro se parties of their eligibility for appointed counsel and treat every individual with dignity and respect. I also preside over the S.O.B.E.R. Court, prioritizing rehabilitation for repeat offenders. My commitment is to a ‘Smart Justice’ philosophy, where every person, regardless of background or socioeconomic status, receives equal protection and fairness under the law.
