Qualifications
What training, experience, and characteristics qualify you for this position?
I bring decades of real-world experience in healthcare, including leadership roles managing people, budgets, operations, and complex problems where decisions have real consequences. I also bring the perspective of someone who has lived the challenges many Texas families face. I raised my children here, worked multiple jobs, relied on Pell Grants to return to school, and built a successful career from the ground up. I know this community because it is my community. I am pragmatic, independent, willing to ask hard questions, and focused on solutions rather than political theater. Most importantly, I understand that public service means listening, doing the work, and being accountable.
Healthcare
Texas has the highest uninsured rate in the nation. What steps would you take as a state representative to ensure access to affordable healthcare, including mental health services, for residents who are currently uninsured or underserved in your district?
As a healthcare professional, I have seen what happens when people delay care because they cannot afford it: they end up using cost prohibitive ED services for conditions that could’ve been treated with primary care. I support closing the coverage gap through Medicaid expansion or a Texas-specific solution, strengthening community health centers and safety-net hospitals, and expanding access to primary and preventive care. I will also fight for greater investment in community-based mental health services, crisis care, substance-use treatment, and our behavioral health workforce. Mental healthcare is healthcare, and every Texan deserves access to both.
Education
What measures would you support to ensure adequate state funding for public schools and accountability for taxpayer funds used in voucher or education savings account programs?
I believe that we should immediately repeal the voucher system and pass a Constitutional Amendment to prevent a similar system from being implemented in the future. Profit belongs nowhere near public education, which is all the voucher system stands to accomplish. We need to use every available education dollar towards a strong public school system, and I believe that we can achieve that even without raising taxes just by eliminating the multiple layers of vendor contracts that have been put in place in Texas and directing that money back to the classroom.
Issues
What are the two most pressing issues unique to your district, and what specific, measurable actions would you take to address them during your term?
Public education funding and crushing property taxes are one and two. I would address public education funding as noted above. For property taxes, I would advocate for a larger share of state sales tax revenue to be returned to communities for infrastructure, emergency services, and education funding so there is not a need for local municipalities to continue to raise local property taxes just to keep the lights on.
