Qualifications
What training, experience, and characteristics qualify you for this position?
As your elected County Clerk and Chief Election Official (2010–2018), I completely modernized the County Clerk’s office from mainframes and microfilm to modern computer systems, saving taxpayers significant money. I created the electronic iPad poll book used at polling locations for the past 10 years.I have lived in and served HD 126 for 30 years. I am a nationally known election expert who has worked with the Texas Legislature for 15 years on common-sense laws, while fighting for fair and secure elections. My career as an electronics and software engineer and manager on major projects in aerospace, NASA’s International Space Station, and Compaq Computer gave me the real-world experience to deliver significant results in local government.
Healthcare
Texas has the highest uninsured rate in the nation. What steps would you take as a state representative to ensure access to affordable healthcare, including mental health services, for residents who are currently uninsured or underserved in your district?
Texas has a high uninsured rate, and too many working families struggle with costs and mental health access. Expanding Medicaid raises costs and creates dependency without better outcomes. I would: • Expand competition via association plans, flexible coverage, and HSAs so people can find affordable options. • Require real price transparency from providers. • Streamline licensing and expand telehealth to increase the supply of health providers. • Strengthen community health centers and charity care for those who need help, prioritizing citizens. • Support practical mental health access through telehealth and community providers, not more bureaucracy. The goal is lower costs, more choices, and better access—without bankrupting the state.
Education
What measures would you support to ensure adequate state funding for public schools and accountability for taxpayer funds used in voucher or education savings account programs?
I support fully funding public schools while expanding parental choice through Education Savings Accounts. Too many families are trapped in failing inner-city schools, and providing a choice gives their children a way to escape. Competition improves public schools, and many will rise to the challenge. Taxpayer dollars in Education Savings Accounts are managed through a state-approved platform and can only be spent on approved education-related items, providing accountability. Competition for the best education will strengthen public schools, allow children to escape failing ones, and empower parents. Parents, not bureaucrats, should decide what is best for their child.
Issues
What are the two most pressing issues unique to your district, and what specific, measurable actions would you take to address them during your term?
High property taxes, cost of living, insurance rates, and public safety concern most voters. The two most unique local issues impacting HD 126 are flooding and the crime/homelessness along FM 1960 west of I-45. On flooding: I will fight to prioritize state funding with state leaders for drainage and flood-control projects in northwest Harris County, and work closely with the Cypress Creek Drainage Improvement District, Harris County Commissioners Court, and Harris County Flood Control. On FM 1960: I will support and expand multi-agency efforts led by Precinct 3 Commissioner Tom Ramsey and Precinct 4 Constable Mark Herman, working with HCSO, DPS, Hope Center Houston, Hope Haven, the Coalition for the Homeless, and other impactful agencies.
