U.S. Representative, District 29

Infrastructure
What is your approach to federal infrastructure investment, and how would you prioritize funding for energy, transportation, flood mitigation, and resilience needs in your district?
My priority is ensuring federal infrastructure dollars address Houston families’ needs. That means strengthening our electric grid to withstand extreme heat and severe weather, while ensuring families, not massive data centers, come first for reliable, affordable power. I have also fought for federal funding for flood mitigation and resilience projects in communities historically left behind. Transportation investments must improve safety, which is why I helped secure millions for rail underpasses that address dangerous blocked crossings and ensure first responders can reach residents when every second matters. Houston powers and moves America, and our federal investments should reflect that.
Inflation
If elected to office, what will you do to address rising costs, especially with regard to groceries, childcare, and housing?
Houston families are working harder but paying more for the basics. I will fight to lower grocery costs by strengthening competition, protecting consumers from price gouging, and lowering costs for farmers and small businesses. I support expanding the Child Tax Credit and federal childcare assistance so no family has to choose between a paycheck and safe, quality care. Housing is also one of our biggest affordability challenges. I will push for more federal investment to build and preserve affordable housing, expand rental and homeownership assistance, and lower insurance and utility costs. Above all, I will oppose policies that raise costs on working families while giving corporations and billionaires another tax break.
Immigration
What is your position on federal immigration enforcement and detention policies? What specific changes, if any, would you support to how those policies are implemented?
Donald Trump has weaponized ICE to terrorize our communities, separate families, and undermine due process. I have fought these abuses and will continue demanding accountability for an agency that too often operates without transparency or meaningful oversight. I support strict limits on detention, stronger protections and access to counsel, enforceable standards for conditions and medical care, and real accountability for private detention contractors. We can enforce our laws without masked agents sweeping through communities and treating hardworking families like criminals. Congress must rein in ICE, protect Dreamers and mixed-status families, and finally pass comprehensive immigration reform with a pathway to citizenship.
Voting
What changes, if any, to current laws related to voter registration, voter ID, and mail-in ballots would you support and why?
Voting is a fundamental right, and Texas has made it far too difficult for eligible citizens to exercise it. I support automatic and same-day voter registration, expanded early voting, and no-excuse mail-in voting. I oppose restrictive voter ID laws and efforts to purge eligible voters from the rolls or make it harder to vote by mail. In Congress, I have fought to pass the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act and the Freedom to Vote Act to restore federal protections gutted by the Supreme Court. Our elections should be secure, but “election integrity” cannot be an excuse to suppress the votes of Black, Latino, young, elderly, or disabled Americans. Our democracy is strongest when every eligible voter can make their voice heard.
