What training, experience, and characteristics qualify you forthis position?
I bring 21 years of experience in the County Clerk’s Office and a proven record of leadership, integrity, and accountability. I have served in six positions, earning the trust of the public in 2020 and again in 2022 as the re-elected County Clerk. I oversee daily operations, personnel, finances, community relations, and risk management. I have successfully overseen 22 elections, expanded access to trusted voting information, and worked to combat misinformation and voter suppression. I have also modernized county services by digitizing millions of records and expanding convenient access to services. I bring the experience, leadership, and commitment to keep government accessible, efficient, and responsive to the people we serve.
Voters
How will you ensure that elections in Harris County are administered accurately, securely, and accessibly for all eligible voters, including those who face language barriers, transportation challenges, or other obstacles to participation?
I have administered accurate, secure, and accessible elections by following the law, thoroughly testing equipment, and providing voters with clear, trusted information. I will continue expanding voter education through media campaigns, community outreach, and voting equipment demonstrations. I have expanded voting locations to improve equitable access and strengthened voter outreach across Harris County. I will continue recruiting bilingual election workers and expanding translation resources to assist voters in more languages than required by law. I will also continue working with election officials across Texas to advocate for practical policies that protect election integrity, improve access, and serve all eligible voters.
Elections
The Texas Secretary of State has authority to investigate and potentially impose oversight on Harris County elections. How will you ensure the County Clerk’s Office maintains the standards required to preserve local control of election administration?
I will continue protecting local control while following election laws and maintaining full transparency. Under my leadership, Harris County Elections has strengthened its partnership with the Texas Secretary of State by proactively inviting monitors and trainers to observe key processes, from equipment testing and worker training to ballot processing, early voting, and Election Day operations. Our processes include Democratic and Republican representatives who serve, observe, and verify that procedures are fair and accurate. I also participate in statewide workgroups to promote accountability and transparency. After 22 elections under my leadership, the TX SOS has not needed to impose oversight on Harris County Elections.
Records
What steps will you take to ensure that Harris County residents have timely and equitable access to vital documents and county records, and how will you maintain oversight of those processes?
Under my leadership, we have modernized vital and public records by digitizing birth, death, marriage, real property, and court records, making them easier to access online. We also launched online birth certificate ordering, delivering records to residents’ homes in as little as 1–3 business days and reducing the need for office visits. I created a Business Analyst team to improve processes supporting the civil and probate courts and legal community. This fall, we are launching a Deed Fraud Alert System to help residents quickly detect potential fraud. We are also developing an online feedback system to hear directly from residents and better respond to their needs.
