Jose Loya
Marine Corps war veteran, former oil refinery worker, and union staff rep with 8 yrs negotiating wages, safety, and benefits statewide. Lifelong Texan committed to accountability and working families.
Texas faces disasters too often, and recovery must be faster and more transparent. The state should use CDBG-DR funds to speed housing repairs and prioritize communities that are hit the hardest, especially rural and working-class areas. It must also invest CDBG-MIT funds in mitigation, coastal protection, and erosion control to reduce future damage and better protect families and infrastructure.
As a Marine Corps veteran who deployed twice to Iraq, I understand the challenges veterans face. The Veterans Land Board offers home, land, and renovation loans, veteran assisted living, and a dignified place to be laid to rest beside those who served. I will reach out to every veteran and increase transparency so they can access the resources they’ve earned.
Through permitting, enforcement, and endorsing responsible coastal policies, I will limit risky development in flood-prone areas, protect public safety, and preserve our coast. Developers must be held accountable so taxpayers aren’t left paying the price for irresponsible building. Texas beaches belong to the people, not special interests.
The greatest challenge at the General Land Office is transparency. The GLO manages billions in public land, school funding, and disaster aid, yet too many Texans don’t see how decisions are made. With my kids in public school and years spent helping veterans access earned benefits, I’ll ensure this office puts schools, veterans, and working families first—not special interests.
