Alex Salgado
Prior to 2019 when I was elected to this bench, I was a prosecutor for 9 years. My entire legal career has been in criminal law. As an attorney I handled and tried various cases, from speeding tickets to murder. As Judge I preside over numerous trials, motions hearings, and the day to day operations of running a misdemeanor court in Harris County. The most recent Harris County Criminal Lawyer's Association poll, who are lawyers that practice before me day in and day out rated me at a 98% overall approval rating. I strive to be fair, impartial, and treat every person that comes before me with respect and dignity.
Educating the voters of Harris County that misdemeanor bail reform is not a cause of more crime, and also educating the voters that the Judges are just following the laws that are in place. Misdemeanor bail reform has been in place since 2019, and it allows the majority of first time offenders to be released from custody without paying a bond. Monitors, appointed by the federal court, have released reports for the past 5 years and each report shows crime is not increasing because of the bail reform and people released without paying a bond tend to not reoffend. Plans to address this issue is to go around to as many places as possible to talk to voters about all the good we have done in the last 7 years when it comes to bail reform.
