BACKGROUND: Why are you running for this office?
ROLE OF TRUSTEES: How do you envision your role while HISD
operations and administration are under the supervision of the Texas
Education Agency rather than an elected Board of Trustees?

I am running to be the next HISD Trustee in District V because public education has shaped my life as an HISD graduate and parent and as a former teacher, district administrator, and University of Houston professor. I know the power of strong schools to transform lives, and I am committed to ensuring every child has access to engaging, equitable, and high-quality learning.
The state takeover has silenced local voices and eroded trust. I will fight to restore that trust, respect and support our teachers, and bring parents back as true partners. I believe in public schools that prioritize learning, nurture creativity, and strengthen our communities.
Even under TEA control, trustees play an essential role. I will use the position to amplify the voices of students, families, and educators, and to hold the appointed administration accountable through transparency and advocacy. The takeover took away local decision-making, but it did not take away our responsibility to fight for public schools.
As trustee, I will keep the community informed and engaged so that when local control is restored, we are ready to rebuild HISD with leadership that values collaboration, trust, and respect for educators and community members. My role is to be a watchdog, a community advocate, and a bridge-builder. I want to make sure HISD reflects the needs of our neighborhoods.
