Dolores Lozano
I currently serve as Justice of the Peace for Harris County Precinct 2 Place 2, presiding over civil, criminal misdemeanor, truancy, and eviction cases. I have completed hundreds of hours of judicial education through the Texas Justice Court Training Center and continue ongoing education in ethics, procedure, and court management. I was appointed to the Bylaws and Constitution Committee for the Justices of the Peace and Constables Association, reflecting my peers’ trust in my leadership. My background in public service and strong courtroom management, combined with a fair and impartial temperament, allow me to apply the law consistently while ensuring every person who appears before the court is treated with dignity and respect.
One of the most pressing issues facing Justice Courts is access to justice for unrepresented litigants. Many residents appear without legal counsel and struggle to navigate the process. I addressed this by integrating free onsite legal aid, interpreters, and plain language materials directly into court operations so parties can meaningfully participate. A second critical issue is housing stability. I implemented an award winning eviction diversion initiative that helps keep families housed while supporting landlords in getting paid by connecting parties to mediation, rental assistance, legal support, job placement, and more. Using judicial discretion, I promote lawful resolutions, reduce default judgments, and ensure impartial outcomes.
