Jason Cox
I have served as Presiding Judge of Harris County Probate Court No. 3 since 2019, with jurisdiction over estates, guardianships, and all civil mental health proceedings in Harris County. I bring more than twenty years of legal experience, including nearly fifteen years in complex probate and fiduciary litigation before taking the bench. I am a graduate of the University of Houston Law Center, an adjunct law professor, and have extensive training in probate, guardianship, and civil mental health law. My judicial approach emphasizes fairness, due process, efficiency, and respect for all who appear before the court.
As the court with primary responsibility for all civil mental health matters in Harris County, I will continue working to expand community-based treatment options, promoting less-restrictive alternatives to hospitalization, and working with providers and stakeholders to improve coordination, continuity of care, and public safety.
Probate courts also handle other matters affecting vulnerable individuals, families, and property rights. I will continue focusing on efficient case management, clear procedures, and respectful treatment of all parties, including those without attorneys. My goal is to ensure proceedings are transparent, legally sound, and accessible while maintaining the highest standards of judicial fairness and accountability.
