Charlene Ward Johnson
I bring more than 20 years of leadership experience through service on community boards and a 30 year career in Corporate America. As a former business owner, Civic Club president, and civic engagement volunteer, I have listened to the needs of our diverse community and brought resources and opportunities to the district. In 2022, I was elected to the Houston Community College Board of Trustees, where I advocated for funding for low cost courses, skills training, expanded workforce development training with a pathway to a career. I am currently the incumbent State Representative, I have used my leadership experience to continue to fight for the people of HD 139 to have safer neighborhoods, strong schools, and real opportunities
1. Addressing economic opportunity and cost-of-living pressures for working families. The Legislature must focus on policies that support job growth, workforce development, better schools, and quality education. Also, polices that will help reduce costs such as healthcare costs and property taxes are needed. Rising housing and living expenses require policies that support working people, retirees, seniors, etc 2. Another pressing issue is upgrading infrastructure—particularly flooding, the power grid and environmental health risks. I support continued state investment in flood mitigation, clean water infrastructure, and environmental protections to ensure families are safe and communities
