Lauren Reeder
I am running for my third term as Judge of the 234th District Court. I graduated from Harvard Law School, and began my career at a large law firm in Houston practicing commercial litigation. For the past seven years, I've been the presiding judge of the 234th District Court where I have presided over more than 70 jury trials, hundreds of bench trials, and thousands of hearings. I am consistently ranked as one of the top judges in the Houston Bar Association judicial evaluation poll. I was also elected by my colleagues to be the Administrative Judge of the Civil Division for 2025 and 2026. In that role, I successfully advocated for the creation of five new Civil District Courts that will be established in the fall of 2026.
The civil justice system in Harris County is at a tipping point. There are more cases filed every year and not enough resources, including courts, to effectively manage them. This creates two main issues to address: 1) how do we effectively manage our docket without diminishing fairness; and 2) how do we plan for the future? To address the first issue, it is important that judges give parties access to swift hearings, make timely rulings, and set firm trial dates to encourage the resolution of cases. As to the second, I am in a unique position as Administrative Judge to continue conversations with county and legislative leaders as well as local stakeholders to create and implement a strategic plan for the civil justice system.
