My experience as a trial lawyer has been invaluable in preparing me to become a judge. Through my years of practice, I've developed a deep understanding of courtroom procedures, legal principles, and how to make fair and informed decisions. This hands-on experience helps me to evaluate cases from all perspectives, ensure justice is served, and apply the law impartially. Being a trial lawyer has taught me to think critically, manage complex legal arguments, and remain unbiased, all of which are essential skills for a judge.
Two of the biggest challenges we face in the court system today are the backed-up docket and the growing number of self-represented litigants. The backlog of cases leads to delays in justice, which can be frustrating for everyone involved. One solution to this issue is increasing efficiency through technology and improving case management systems to prioritize and streamline cases. The second challenge is the rise of self-represented litigants. Many individuals can't afford legal representation and end up navigating the system on their own, which can be overwhelming. To address this, we can expand access to legal resources, provide self-help tools, and offer more guidance for those who need it by adding a virtual self-help kiosk.
