Allison Jackson-Mathis
I have been exclusively handling criminal cases since I became an attorney in 2012. I handle cases ranging from minor drug offenses to murders and aggravated robberies. I have taught other lawyers, law students, and lay people about the law. I was raised in Houston, and I have practiced here a long time, but I have a diversity of experience practicing overseas and in other states. I'm creative, compassionate, and I am filled with a burning desire to right the wrongs that I see in this world. I have a background as a waitress and a teacher- which are both service-oriented fields where your words and actions can mean more than you realize to the people you interact with. I am still that servant, and I see this as my next opportunity to serve.
1. Bond-current bonds enrich bonding companies and hurt public safety. The amounts bonds are set at now are Monopoly money. In appropriate cases, I will issue cash-only bonds that allow families to post the entire bond to the county directly, and at the end of the case, if there haven't been violations-they get their money BACK rather than forfeiting it all to a bonding company, which is what happens now. That creates accountability.
2. Docket Control- how do we keep things moving without sacrificing justice? Courts need to be open and hearing cases, not taking long vacations. Also more diversionary programs to keep people out of court in the first place, and more accountability for attorneys who drag their feet on resolving cases.
