Andrea Beall
I graduated Magna Cum Laude from South Texas College of Law. I served over 8 years with the Harris County District Attorney's Office, spending the majority of my career there prosecuting Child Sexual Abuse cases, Child Fatality cases, and Capital Murders. I served as a Houston Police Academy Instructor, teaching Arrest Search and Seizure to both cadets and in-service officers. I have served as an Adjunct Law Professor at South Texas College of Law for almost a decade, teaching Mock Trial Litigation and Phases of Criminal Advocacy. As a Judge, over the last three years I have presided over 55 trials. By increasing trials, I have increased efficiency and decreased the docket from about 1900 active cases to approximately 450 cases.
The two most pressing issues for the 185th District Court are (1) continuing the efficiency of the court and (2) balancing community safety with individual freedoms. Both of these issues are intimately tied together. By eliminating the backlog of cases in the 185th District Court, I have decreased the amount of individuals on pretrial bond for violent crimes and decreased the amount of individuals sitting in pretrial custody in the 185th. I have also decreased the amount of time each case takes to reach disposition by increasing trials. The result has been less waiting time for both victims and the accused for their day in court.
