Dominque Payton
I believe my first qualification is that God
actually called me to this position! Now, I do have a Bachelor’s
in Criminal Justice and experience as a pretrial services and
parole officer. I have worked directly with individuals navigating
the justice system and have led community programs focused
on youth development, reentry, and workforce training. I bring
persistence, integrity, and a commitment to equity in all my
work. I’ve always been the leader and everything that I do, and
this position in our legislation will be no different.
Two pressing issues are criminal justice reform and
education. I plan to reform prison operations to prioritize real
rehabilitation, including vocational training, mental health
support, and reentry programs to reduce recidivism. I will also
address the school-to-prison pipeline by investing in youth
programs, mentorship, and resources in schools to keep students
on a path to success rather than incarceration. When our
children are thriving all throughout their primary school career,
and we equipped them with the resources and tools that they
need when they become adults, they will be more fit for society
and will not have to turn to a life of crime.
